Mission: Impossible - Fallout


The team reunites to do battle with predictably unpredictable superman, engaging in nuclear stunts, cleverly woven together into a cohesive and compelling story. Alarmingly plausible finale intercuts beautifully with emotional references to prior chapters, though action set piece antics cruise far above anything that this impossible franchise has done yet.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation


Cruise takes flight in most aptly acronymed Mission yet. Features all the staples of the series but successfully tweaks them slightly so that the only thing which doesn’t feel fresh is our his face. Cleverly constructs an ending where the stakes are meaningful but plausible so any outcome seems possible.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Bird soars in live action debut and confirms suspicions that yes, Renner can save any series. Brilliantly comedic and excellently executed, this Ghost overshadows the rest of the series. Slightly contrived ending and light-speed global travel make parts of movie improbable, but expected retirement suggests upcoming merger, The Bourne Impossible.

Surrogates

In a world of wrinkle-free Joan Rivers robots, Bruce Willis’ rugged good-looks go totally unappreciated. Brilliant dystopic premise tanked by horribly convoluted plot. Beats the viewer over the head with the message that real people are really really really ugly. Mediocre dialogue and neck-pouch-free world will appeal to George Lucas.
