Mother!

Moving cinematography puts viewers in the feverish nightmare of an unamused muse abused. Mediocre digital effects and inconsistent pacing damage structural integrity of a creative internal haunted house built on a foundation of densely packed symbolism which ultimately devolves into Boschian cinematic orgy where generating exclamation seems the main point.

Black Swan

Aronofsky introduces wrestler’s scarier sister, beautifully depicted by petrified Portman. Ryder and Kunis are brilliant as washed up and insincere respectively, and Cassell is expectedly outstanding, though his ‘black/white swan’ speech gets old. Still, brilliant script steers clear of campy horror despite staple leg snapping, finger ripping, and lesbian sex.

Dick refuses to be censored in this disturbing look at the MPAA. Adequately covers full array of related subjects, from history to controversy to masturbation, but shoots itself in the foot with painfully incompetent private investigators and journalistically disappointing phone call recreations. Ironically undeserving of the NC-17 it got branded.
