Despite Zemeckis characteristic overindulgence in visual
effects, Mr. Smith Goes to Europe is an old-fashioned, conventional tail of
intrigue. Tragically mis-represented by commercial double-agents, the twists
are spoiled and the plot consequently sabotaged. Pitt is predictably at home in
glorious fashion and Cotillard keeps the emotions real despite all lies.

Flight
Washington soars as he crashes and crashes as he soars in alarmingly
and ironically sobering performance.
Passage of lengthy airtime is assisted by countless character actors in
mini-bar sized and equally potent parts.
Smooth landing not quite managed following turbulent comedic transition
into alcoholism sermon. Pro-cocaine and
anti-left wing (literally).

Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Pre-digitally destroyed Zemeckis delivers a visually stimulating send-up of film noir genre. Hoskins and Lloyd lend credibility to a ridiculous concept with a mediocre screenplay. Clever effects maintain interest, as do constant cartoon character cameos. Wins points for being first film to do this and for not being Space Jam.
