Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping


Sandberg votes himself off the Island in Spinal Rap, a mock/rockumentary that’s unflinching farcical while bizarrely believable. Ridiculous rhyme schemes and clever genre subversion compete for the spotlight against impressive lineup of cameos. Clever jokes come early, while later, longer set-pieces lack life. It’s no Mona Lisa, whatever that means.

I Love You, Man

Apatow’s troupe goes off on their own and finally showcase the bro-mance. Rudd assumes the awkward man role beautifully, though Segel plays over the top. Clever for it’s simple adherence to rom-com formula, and hilarious thanks to Huebel and Samberg’s supporting roles, though both are under-used. I like it, man.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Brilliant adaptation of classic kids’ story adds necessary complexity and character to make compelling movie. Stuffed with jokes for adults and kids alike and layered with reference to other genres. Beautifully prepared and seasoned with phenomenal use of 3-D effects. Features healthy helping of SNL topped with T for flavor.
