Third Person

Get Taken for a few Hours in an Adaptation of grief by Neeson’s Beautiful Mind.  Meandering, unusual parallel story film in which the frame is 1/3 of the picture.  Phenomenal performances keep over-long film from dragging.  2/3 of people won’t get it, but it really caters to that third person.

Prisoners

Gyllenhaal rechecks his zodiac and flinches at the result while Jackman and his co-stars deliver soulful, vulnerable performances as they navigate this mystic labyrinthine river of mystery (with s whistle of predictability).  Painted shades of gray by the moral ambiguity of characters and brilliant (or anti-brilliant) eye of DP Deakins.

Thank You For Smoking

Reitman captures Buckley’s wit beautifully with help from perfect cast. Exotic blend of clever humor with slapstick-esque hilarity, rolled into a perfect satiric cinematic joint. Eckhart makes himself a household name, and spends time in Holmes as well. X-Men Leech holds his own and doesn’t run scared from brilliant flick.

Dick refuses to be censored in this disturbing look at the MPAA. Adequately covers full array of related subjects, from history to controversy to masturbation, but shoots itself in the foot with painfully incompetent private investigators and journalistically disappointing phone call recreations. Ironically undeserving of the NC-17 it got branded.
