War Machine


Brad’s performance is uncharacteristically the pitts as he claws for his caricature of a character and fails to bring home a win in this mess of a movie. Despite deployment of dozens of additional minor celebrities neither realism nor comedy nor empathy are brought to the people of the audience.

Okja


Korean characters Host an array of international actors in this cleverly commercial creature creation. Though upbeat music, outlandish performances and Miyazaki-esque visuals keep the tone light, this meaty monster movie never shies away from gritty, bruising realism. Incredibly emotive heroine perfectly contrasts caricaturish capitalists and the ending is dishearteningly heart-warming.

Doctor Strange


The only thing not bent by this visual extravaganza is Benedict’s range as he narrowly alters his repertoire’s reality from Holmes to House. Relatively simple plot, direct exposition, and ironically two-dimensional characters leave plenty of room for Inceptional effects projected through Marvelous kaleidoscope. Wonderfully colorful despite strange whitewashing accusations.
