BlackKklansman

Malcolm Y’s performance provides an interestingly stiff backboard against which to bounce this insane true story while Driver rides shotgun, Ren-dering an uncharacteristically complex character. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Spaceships idle infinitely along while wonderfully diverse heroes meander about on meaningless missions, diving through plotholes to find silly set-pieces like the Dobby-horse race and 50 shades of Rey’s red room of pain. Logan Lucky

All-star cast goof their way through a redneck romp that feels like a Soderday Night Live skit gone long. Repeatedly slips off bizarrely farcical plot-line and ultimately fails by virtue of over-easy success. Unearned twists wreck into a weird wall when Little West Virginia kicks off Swanky mismatched final act.

Silence

Brilliantly shot, deeply religious ode to Kurosawa follows padawan learners on quest to find Qui Gone. Incredible emotional performances almost compensate for linguistic inconsistencies, especially Neepadre’s, which is beyond Por. Impressive lack of preachiness in picture about preaching and palpable passion sustain picture despite plodding pacing. Scorsese scores, albeit silently.
