The Hateful Eight

Tarantino’s voice literally resounds as he Russels up regulars for Western Thing.  Roth waltzes in to participate in the Quentiscential dialog that, along with perfect score and stunning cinematography keep slow-paced and awkwardly structured chamber piece from freezing to death.  Hateful title ignores characters, like pre-film attribution ignores full filmography.

Death Proof

Tarantino realizes that people love his table talk, and seriously over-obliges to everyone’s dismay . Succeeds masterfully at creating an uninteresting and seemingly poorly made film. Closing car chase and reappearance of Russell are film’s saving graces, though it’s depressing that this is worse than many of his early films.

Inglourious Basterds

Spaghetti western cooked by Tarantino and served on a Nazi plate. With occasional flashy exceptions (Samuel Jackson), Tarantino controls himself and does the genre justice. Pitt creates perfect Eastwood or Wayne-esque character alongside amazing lesser-knowns, Fassbender, Laurent, and Waltz. Contains Roth’s best directed film yet and a histourically accurette ending.

Not Quite Hollywood

Compelling documentary about Ozploitation films of ‘70s and ‘80s Australia. Tarantino and others provide expert commentary throughout. Made more compelling through quick ballsy editing and well selected clips from all films discussed. Contains more female nudity than any other R-rated film plus one necessarily lengthy shot of John Holmes’ penis.
