If Beale Street Could Talk...


…it would say an awful lot in very few words. Unfortunately, images are so poetically effective that they convey content too quickly and much of movie feels redundant, sustained only by beautiful score. Though narratively too concise, cleverly illustrates conundrum of conflicting prejudices against victimized women and falsely accused men.

The Little Hours


The Disaster Abbott is an extraordinarily unConventional literary adaptation, that serves up rations of raucous amusement and beautiful scenery, but neither in substantial enough portions to support the film’s weight. The leading performances are all entertaining, but they seem too consistent and the quest for an arc reveals there’s nun.

The Disaster Artist


Directing himself as one of the worst directors ever, one of the most underwhelming directors of the decade directs one of the best films of the year. There was plenty of Room to outdo the source material, and the Francos filled it magnificently. No need to tear this one apart.

Nerve


After a run-in with mistruths, the Catfish guys succeeded again… if they were dared to make a film that follows neither common sense nor its own logic. Somehow they struck a nerve and still racked up viewers, perhaps due to the flashy look, successfully and ironically substituting style for content.
