Love & Friendship

Though crisp whitty dialog moves story along, the staging and editing make it feel rather still, despite wacky Wes Anderson music and character intros. Sevigny and Beckinsale perform well but seem out of place in Last Days of Austen. Overall, an amusing effort that might fare better as a play.

‘Somewhat Near Deep Throat’ struggles to achieve documentary’s depth.  Miscasting, misdirection, and an excess of inference result in a tedious unpalatable drama that relies on fragmented chronology and repeatedly shoving it’s message down the viewer’s throat to compensate for a lack of compelling material.  But James Franco’s in there, so…

My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done

Bad Lieutenant gets checkup from Dr. Mulholland himself, who Lynches the performances before letting Herzog run amok with editing and inclusion of documentary footage. The two stand-out performances come from Lieutenant veterans, Shannon and Dourif, and to say that either is type cast is just crazy. Another interesting Herzog experiment.
