Green Book

Despite cliched cover, Green is hardly just black and white. With wit, compelling comedy and impressive empathy, simple story traverses tricky territory, driving past race into territories of class, sexuality & self-defeatism. Deftly spins savior setup so both broken heroes require redemption and each ultimately achieve it without heavy-handed Help.

Captain Fantastic

Aragorn takes his Hobbits Off the Road in The Swiss Family Mortensens. Fantastic Western analysis of varying parenting methods Promises its Captain an opportunity to air his private philosophies and parts. Bizarrely abrupt third act twist hardly detracts from the most touchingly intellectual family adventure that Wes wishes he’d directed.

A Dangerous Method

Cronenberg assembles wondercast playing fascinating characters and somehow delivers his least interesting film to date.  Aside from Knightley’s English/Polish/Russian, performances aren’t bad, but considering the players, are nothing astonishing either.  Whole film feels tied down, and trapped in a claustrophobic play setting.  Far from dangerous but should still seek analysis.

The Road

Bleak post-apocalyptic future peppered Hurt Locker style with big stars in small roles. Aragorn’s performance can’t match his previous roles despite enormous amount of screen-time devoted to emotional suicide discussions. Like No Country, exceptionally loyal adaptation of a McCarthy book. Should be titled The Day After the Day After Tomorrow.
