Huppert is a bElle in Beauty vs. Beast as Verhoeven delves
into considerably more complex instincts. Central mystery plays a surprisingly small
part in this ubiquitously sexual, morally ambiguous and bizarrely arbitrary
character study. Solid acting and sheer audacity bolster a meandering plot but
Francofornication’s climax is a bit disappointing.

Doctor Strange
The only thing not bent by this visual extravaganza is Benedict’s
range as he narrowly alters his repertoire’s reality from Holmes to House. Relatively
simple plot, direct exposition, and ironically two-dimensional characters leave
plenty of room for Inceptional effects projected through Marvelous kaleidoscope.
Wonderfully colorful despite strange whitewashing accusations.

Get Out
Jordan peeles out of his familiar genre in a well-paced
Hitchcockian thriller that races to a timely resolution. Social relevance,
clever helpings of comedy and a careful avoidance of heavy-handed preaching
make it easy to get in to Get Out. And absence of Key hinders the protagonist
but not the director.
