The Square

Quasi-experimental meditation on responsibility is anything but square as it colors far outside the lines, running increasingly out of shape while focusing exclusively on one point rather than quadrilateral four. Fascinating cinematographic and editorial decisions elevate the meandering mess to art, while riveting performances keep viewers rooted to the spot.

Finding Dory

CG rollercoaster ride Weaves its way through the most ineptly maintained aquarium in history and a predictable plot that expends all of its emotional energy in the first big-eyed flashback. Ellen’s emphatic performance sustains long bouts out of water and ultimately makes for an enjoyable if underwhelming deep blue sequel.

300

White leader defies legislature and sends undersized force to fight symbolic battle against brown people. Similarities to real events totally coincidental. Weak story made up for by outstanding visuals and brilliant use of slow motion. Probably responsible for more men joining the military or discovering their homosexuality than any other film.
