Nacho dips into Kaufman-esque surrealism with this monstrous tale of alcoholism and manipulation. Hatheway’s devastating performance grounds what could have been a farcical film, and phenomenal character arcs are perfectly crafted to span half the globe. Comedy and drama trade blows in an entertaining tonal battle for far-flung emotional impact.

The Dark Tower


Not only is it more forgettable than a childhood dream, but it also launches an attack on the newborn Stephen Kingdom (his cinematic universe) by lessening the impact of It and The Shining. McConaughey’s woodenness harkens back to his shirtless days, and Idris Elba certainly doesn’t kill with his performance.
